Anonymous Egg Donors

Fortunately, most women will never experience the pain and heartache of infertility and the feelings which just the sight of someone else's child can provoke.

If you can in an way imagine how it must feel, you will have taken a major step towards understanding our Anonymous Donor programme.

The Bridge Anonymous Donor programme enables healthy fertile women aged between 21-35 to give the very greatest gift of all - life itself.

Today we have a large number of couples on our waiting list for donor eggs and many face the hardship of waiting time.

More anonymous donors would help us to make serious inroads into this terribly long list and bring an end to the suffering of many childless couples.

The donor process takes one month, requires limited medication and may involve a brief period of discomfort at the collection stage.

Statistically, it is virtually certain that your gift will create at least one life under another name - maybe more.

It is one of the greatest acts of humanity one could ever imagine and we ask, on behalf of our many childless couples, that you consider it very carefully.... For further information please contact Ema Locker directly on 020 7089 1455 or eggdonation@thebridgecentre.co.uk or via reception on 020 7403 3363.

Set-out below are our answers to the questions most often asked by potential donors:-

1.
Q) Are there any requirements to become a donor?

A) Yes :-
a) be aged between 18 and 36 years
b) have a BM less than 32
c) have no personal or family history of inheritable disorders
d) have no personal history of transmissable infection

2.
Q) Does it hurt?

A) As part of the treatment you will require injections and whilst these do not hurt you may have a little soreness. Occassionally donors feel some "period pain" after the egg collection but you will be given tablets to ease this.

3.
Q) Is my own fertility adversely effected?

A) Highly unlikely, your welfare always comes first.

As part of the initial assessment which is all done at the first consultation your consultant will explain all the risks involved and what effects, if any, they may have on your future fertility.

4.
Q) If I have to take time off from work or incur other expenses will these be paid?

A) Yes - see separate section below.

5.
Q) Will I be given any information about the couple who receive my eggs?

A) Egg donation is competely anonymous - only limited, non-identifying information is given to you if you request it.

6.
Q) Will I be told if the couple who receive my donation are successful?

A) Yes, but only if you ask and no detailed information can be given to you.

7.
Q) Will my recipient be given any information about me?

A) As noted above egg donation is competely anonymous and your recipient will only be given non-identifying information which is needed for "matching" purposes.

8.
Q) Do I have any say as to who can receive my eggs?

A) If you have strong views about who should receive your eggs, say about the age of a couple or the type of relationship they may be involved in, we will respect your wishes. We will not match you to someone who does not match your requirements.

Expenses

It is against the law to pay donors for donating their eggs but we do not want you to incur any out of pocket expenses.

The following expenses will be re-imbursed when you attend your consultation, scans and egg collections:-

1. Child minding or loss or earnings
2. Taxi, bus, train and tube fares will be covered to and from the centre
3. Milage (at 35p per mile) will be covered to and from the centre
4. The travel costs to bring a dependant child to the centre

In addition we will also re-imburse any expenses incured by a friend who accompanies you to the consultation and egg collection.

Details of how expenses are claimed and paid will be explained during the initial consultation.
