For couples at risk of having a child affected by an inherited disease, preimplantation genetic diagnosis or PGD, is a valuable alternative to conventional prenatal diagnosis by chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or amniocentesis. Embryos are analysed before implantation, which removes the uncertainty and trauma associated with diagnosis later in an already established pregnancy.
The current “gold standard” for PGD for single gene disorders is karyomapping. Karyomapping was conceived and developed by scientists and clinicians at the Bridge Centre.
