Ovarian Assessment
A Bridge ovarian assessment provides the most advanced test available today using a single blood sample for assessing the available egg supply for retrieval through ovarian stimulation (“ovulatory egg supply”).
Why ovarian assessment?
Ovarian assessment provides the most advanced test available using a single blood sample for assessing ovulatory egg supply in women considering egg retrieval. Currently, the most commonly used blood test in ovarian assessment is FSH, a hormone produced by the brain which increases when egg supply drops below a certain threshold. Unfortunately, FSH is difficult to rely upon because levels fluctuate and are not closely associated with egg supply.
A full ovarian assessment is significantly more accurate and reliable than FSH alone and other single hormone tests because it combines multiple hormones and age in a single integrated approach. Clinicians and patients can rely on the value ranges produced.
The Science
Research into the cells surrounding eggs has established that these cells produce hormones.
Two hormones were discovered to be produced by the granulosa cells which surround each egg. These hormones, AMH (anti-Müllerian hormone) and inhibin B, are secreted into the blood and allow a more accurate assessment of egg supply than provided by FSH alone.
The Bridge Female Reproductive Health Assessment (FRHA) brings together all the information from your medical history, a detailed pelvic scan which includes an antral follicle count and the ovarian assessment, enabling clinicians and patients to discuss fertility and treatment issues with greater confidence.
