Cryoservices

Cryopreservation is a process by which cells or whole tissues are preserved by cooling to low sub-zero temperatures, typically -196 °C. At these low temperatures, biological activity, including the biochemical reactions that lead to cell death, is effectively stopped.

The process is ideal for human gametes – especially sperm and embryos and, since the introduction of vitrification (a process which minimises damage due to ice crystal formation), eggs can also be cryopreserved successfully.

Bridge provides a comprehensive range of services via our Cryoservices Department for people who, for medical or social reasons, wish to preserve eggs, sperm or embryos for possible future use.

  • Sperm cryopreservation and storage
  • Egg freezing and storage
  • Embryo cryopreservation and storage for patients with surplus embryos after IVF/ICSI
  • Freeze and Share – an innovative programme which enables women to donate some of their eggs and freeze the remainder

For further information about all these services contact Bridge Cryoservices on 020 7089 1444.

New Donor Sperm Arrangements

We are pleased to announce that the London Sperm Bank and the Bridge Sperm Bank have joined forces to provide a greater choice of donors for our patients. This collaboration is designed to take advantage of the extensive experience and success of both donor banks over many years. It will also ensure that Bridge patients have access to a wider choice of donor sperm online via the London Sperm Bank’s website www.londonspermbankdonors.com. Patients of all IVF centres within the Bridge family can now approach the London Sperm Bank catalogue to select their own donor for treatment.

The London Sperm Bank is now the largest sperm bank in the UK with over 100 donors from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and communities. Via its online platform, patients can select their donor sperm depending on physical characteristics, educational background and occupation. Visitors to the site also benefit from the opportunity to see unique staff impressions of the donors before they make a selection.

The gift of sperm donation

Sperm donation is one of the most generous gifts you can give, changing the lives of couples and individuals who would love to have a child of their own. As a sperm donor you can help to turn a loving couple into a happy family. Bridge continues to recruit men interested in donating their sperm. We welcome donors to continue to visit us and donate at Bridge. For more information, please call Bridge Cryoservices on 020 7089 1444.
