A Note about the HFEA
The Department of Health report on Arm’s Length Bodies, published on Monday 26th July, recommends the long-term replacement of the HFEA as an independent regulatory body and the division of its functions between the Care Quality Commission, the Health and Social Care Information Centre and a new research regulator.
These changes are very much in the future and the HFEA will continue to operate at least for the lifetime of the current Parliament, allowing valuable time for a detailed review and reallocation of the HFEA’s important and complex responsibilities.
Bridge is delighted that no hasty action is being taken and that the HFEA’s significant contribution to patient safety and medical and scientific standards remain in place and unaffected for the foreseeable future.
Nothing changes, therefore, as far as Bridge patients and team members are concerned. We will continue to work within the established regulatory guidelines in close cooperation with the HFEA. We anticipate no impact whatsoever on standards of care or the quality of information available and HFEA fees will remain payable in the normal way.
