Check your BMI

BMI stands for BodyMass Index - a formula which enables you to determine weather your weight is healthy for you. All you need to know is your weight and your height.

The BMI Ranges

BMI is only a general guide, hence the ranges shown below.

It is important to remember that there are very many different body types and muscle and bone mass is distributed differently - so this is not an absolute or final diagnosis but, even so, the higher your BMI, especially over 30, the higher the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes - so be careful.

If you are facing fertility issues then high BMI is a disadvantage and you will almost certainly improve your chance of successful treatment by losing weight. Equally, a very low BMI (under 18.5) can be a disadvantage.

Consult a specialist

This BMI calculator is provided for general information only and should not be treated as a substitute for qualified medical advice. Please consult your GP or a Bridge fertility specialist if you are in any way concerned about your health.

Do you consider yourself to have a disability? If yes, please describe how this might affect your attendance for a consultation or treatment at Bridge. Due to internal structural constraints we may ask wheelchair users to transfer to a lightweight wheelchair.

The Bridge Centre is licensed by the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority to perform IVF, microsurgical fertilisations and treatments using donated eggs and sperm,
to perform Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis and Screening and to store genetic material.
